Goaltender Marty Turco spent all season waiting for an NHL team to give him a chance to make a comeback. An injury to the backup Tuukka Rask paved the way for Turco not only to return at 36, but to join the Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins. Turco made 19 saves and earned his second victory since joining Boston this month, and the Bruins eliminated the host Islanders from playoff contention with a 6-3 victory Saturday. Turco's late arrival precludes him from playing in the postseason. For now, he is trying to do his best to spell Tim Thomas. Brad Marchand broke a 2-2 tie in the third period with his 27th goal, and the Bruins dispatched the Islanders with their sixth win in eight games (6-1-1). David Krejci scored two goals for Boston. Kyle Okposo scored for the fifth straight game, and P. A. Parenteau had two goals for the Islanders (33-34-11), who had won five of six but will miss the playoffs for the fifth straight season. Devils 5, Hurricanes 0: Ilya Kovalchuk had a goal and two assists, Martin Brodeur made 22 saves in his third shutout of the season and the visiting Devils clinched a playoff berth. Capitals 3, Canadiens 2: Host Washington blew a two-goal lead for the second game in a row before winning in a shootout. With Toronto's 4-3 win over Buffalo, the Capitals moved 2 points ahead of the Sabres for the eighth playoff spot in the East with three games to play. Maple Leafs 4, Sabres 3: Joey Crabb had a goal and an assist, Ben Scrivens made 29 saves and Toronto ended a team-record 11-game home losing streak. Blue Jackets 5, Blues 2: R. J. Umberger scored twice, and the rookie goalie Allen York made it three wins in three career starts for visiting Columbus. St. Louis nevertheless clinched the Central when Chicago beat Nashville. Blackhawks 5, Predators 4: Brent Seabrook scored at 8:19 of the third period after Chicago blew a 4-0 lead against host Nashville, and the Blackhawks clinched a playoff berth for the fourth straight season.
