The United States was eliminated from Olympic qualifying after Jaime Alas scored in stoppage time to secure El Salvador a 3-3 draw Monday. Having already lost to Canada, USA needed a win against El Salvador to remain alive in the CONCACAF zone qualifying tournament for the 2012 London Games. Joe Corona scored in the 68th minute for a 3-2 lead and the Americans appeared to be headed to Saturday's semifinals before El Salvador fought back, with Alas' shot deflecting off the hands of goalkeeper Sean Johnson and into the back of the net. This is just the second time since 1976 the USA will miss the Olympics, while El Salvador, which won through to the semifinals, is trying to qualify for the Games for the first time since 1968. Stramaccioni at Inter Andrea Stramaccioni has termed his promotion to become Inter Milan's third coach of the season “a dream.” The 36-year-old stepped up from youth team coach to take over the first team Monday following the firing of Claudio Ranieri after six months in charge. Stramaccioni said at a news conference Tuesday that the promotion was a “completely unexpected call” but that it was a “dream that president (Massimo) Moratto has gifted to me and I hope to honor it.” Inter fired Ranieri after a run of just one win in its last 10 league matches, culminating in a 2-0 loss to arch-rival Juventus a day earlier. Inter will likely look for a more established coach once the season ends, with recently fired Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas — who once worked under Mourinho — leading the list of candidates.
