The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says India has canceled a briefing with the UN body about the monitoring of its nuclear sites. “We have been informed that India has decided to cancel the briefing,” IAEA spokesperson Melissa Flemming said. She further informed that as of now, the August 1 meeting of IAEA Board of Governors stands. India had called the meeting with IAEA members for Friday to brief it on a safeguards agreement that followed a deal with the US in 2006. If ratified in India, the bilateral deal would reverse three decades of US policy by allowing atomic fuel and technology sales to India. India has not signed international nonproliferation accords but has tested nuclear weapons. The UN body's 35-nation board has to approve the safeguards deal before India can do business with 45 nations that export nuclear fuel and technology. It is expected to do so at an Aug. 1 meeting.
