Indian workers here are worried about the growing suicide rate in their community. Indian welfare organizations in the Eastern Province have joined hands to launch a concerted drive to address the suicide issue among its workers. Welfare officials from the Indian Embassy in Riyadh are also coordinating for the event. “Our aim is to spread awareness among workers, especially those in low profile jobs,” an official from one of the welfare organizations said. “Suicide is not the option, there are solutions to solve problems.” Earlier this week, an Indian expatriate, Aichamal Veettil Prasad a 34-year-old Indian from Kerala who ran an electronic repair shop committed suicide. Electronic repair businesses have been seriously affected because of cheap electronic goods flooding the market. Customers now would rather buy new goods than getting their old ones repaired. Prasad was a bachelor supporting his mother back home. __
