Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, Chairman Kingdom Holding Company, with Thein Sein, President of Myanmar, during his trip to the country recently. — Courtesy photoRiyadh — Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation-Global has donated $50,000 for the social welfare activities of the Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association, a press statement of the foundation has said. Prior to it, the foundation donated $50,000 to the storm victims of Rakhine state, through the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement. Princess Ameerah made the donations on behalf of the foundation. Alwaleed Foundation's support to Myanmar also includes a $163,000 donation for the rehabilitation of four villages in the area of Taw Khayan-gyi village tract which was affected by Cyclone Nargis. The support provided cash assistance to rebuild damaged structures, acquire motors for fishing boats and produce electricity. Pertinently, Alwaleed Foundation's philanthropic grants and donations cover 70 countries ranging from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe and from Gaza to The Gambia, totaling over $3 billion during the last 30 years. Alwaleed has three foundations that work locally, regionally and internationally to combat poverty, strengthen interfaith and intercultural dialogue and empower women and youth.
