AFTER years of exploring the sombre world of gangsters and dabbling in the supernatural, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is venturing into unknown territory with a romantic comedy. The maverick director, whose career spans two decades, made a mark in Bollywood with films like “Satya,” “Company” and “Bhoot”. But he has never before shown an inclination to portray the lighter side of life. “I have said in the past that the one genre I am uncomfortable with is the romantic comedy, but I am in the process of scripting of a comedy which will have an element of romance in it,” the 46-year-old filmmaker told Reuters. Varma's most recent project, “Sarkar Raj,” didn't impress audiences much when it opened in cinemas last month. The film, starring Amitabh Bachchan, his son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya in the lead roles, drew comparisons with the controversy behind the failed project of U.S. utilities giant Enron in Maharashtra. “Sarkar Raj” was billed as a sequel to Varma's film “Sarkar” released three years ago and the director said he wasn't too keen on churning out another sequel. “The seeds for another edition are there, but that is not at the top of my mind right now. In fact, I must say I am bored of ‘Sarkar Raj' and its characters as of now. I want to concentrate on other things now.” One of those things is his blog, the latest offering from a growing list of celebrity bloggers from the Bollywood film industry. Varma's blog (http://rgvarma.spaces.live.com/ ) gives him a platform to interact with fans and critics. “It's not that I consciously started thinking about blogging, but there are a lot of things that I would like to say to my audience and this is a very good way of saying it.” – Reuters __
