Brett Favre says he has not filed any retirement papers and wants another crack at playing in the National Football League. He just doesn't know if it will be with the Green Bay Packers or another NFL team. Speaking on a Fox News network television show Monday, the Packers quarterback said he has had a change of heart about his retirement announcement on March 3. “I am guilty of retiring early and there is a reason for that,” Favre said. “And the major issue is ‘Why did he retire?,' and ‘He asked for a release because he doesn't want to play in Green Bay.' That's not true. And I hope people are hearing this and saying ‘OK, that clears it up.'” Favre's comments come after months of public speculation as to whether he would return to football after his tearful and emotional press conference four months ago in which he stated, “I know I can still play, I just don't think I want to anymore...” Though he admitted he was not forced into a decision about continuing his career at that time, Green Bay did ask where he stood so the team could make plans for free agency and the draft. “The bottom line, on March 3, when I got in front of the podium...'Did I want to play? Yes. One hundred percent? No,” Favre said. Favre stated during the interview that he had not signed any official retirement papers. There have several recent reports stating the Packers' brass - including Packers general manager Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy - have tried to convince Favre to return. Favre stated during his interview with Fox that McCarthy routinely called him - weekly according to Favre - after his retirement announcement to gauge his interest in a possible return. Favre stated that McCarthy also told him, ‘We moved on....I had to tell the team something'. “I was told playing in Green Bay was not an option,” Favre told Fox. “Later, it was ‘we can't imagine you playing anywhere else...where does that leave me? Favre and agent James (Bus) Cook drafted a letter in which the quarterback wanted the team to release him from his contract. “Them moving on does not bother me; it doesn't,” Favre said. “I totally understand that. “By me retiring March 3, I knew that could possibly happen. All I was saying is you know I'm thinking about playing again.”
