The Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) teams beat their Eastern Province rivals (EPCA) in a T20 and then in a 40-over-a-side match to sweep the friendlies played at the Jubail Highway grounds here recently. In the first match EPCA Junior team opting to bat first made 137-7 mainly through Zuhair (35) and Tajammul (32). Mazhar Abbasi picked up three wickets, Ejaz two while Shoaib Ali and Shafeeq scalped one each. WPCA in reply reached the target of 138 for the loss of three wickets off 101 balls. WPCA skipper Shafeeq top-scored with 47 and Kashif added 29, while man-of-the-match Mazhar Abbasi hit 31. Tajammul, Ali Iftikhar and Pervez took a wicket each. The main match saw WPCA put into bat. It put on a mammoth target of 339 in 40 overs with Kashif playing a patient knock of 76 and Hammad Saeed posting 69, Kashif 60, Mazhar 29, Abid Naseem 34, Abdullah Essa 43 and Babar 42. Asif Mughal claimed 4-48, Zahid 2-43 and Nasir 2-48. EPCA in reply kept losing wickets at regular intervals and could score only 232 with Rizwan Qayyum scoring 50, Zahid remained unbeaten on 50, Amjad made 29, Khawar 13, Munawwer 13 and Kashif Meher 14. Hammad Saeed took 3-41, while Shafiq, Abu Huraira, Hussain Anwer Bhatti and Shoaib Ali took a wicket each. This was the first time that a visiting team has beaten the EPCA teams on its home ground. A glittering Prize distribution followed the match. The winner's cup was lifted by WPCA skipper Shafeeq, while the runner-up cup was handed to EPCA captain Munawwer.
