Newsweek and Daily Beast magazines have selected Dr. Hayat Sindi, a Saudi national, on their global list of 150 most distinguished women. The list includes Hilary Clinton, US Secretary of State, and renowned human rights activists. Sindi was also chosen as one of 100 most powerful Arab women this year in addition to Princess Ameerah Al-Taweel, Lubna Al-Alyan and the Yemeni Tawakul Karman, a Nobel Laureate. Sindi came ninth on the Arab list and third in the Kingdom, according to CEO Magazine. Sindi recently received an award for medical discoveries and inventions in Dubai from Sheikha Lubna Al-Qasmi, Minister of Foreign Trade in the United Arab Emirates. Sindi said she was listed as one of the world's 150 most distinguished women because of her determination to overcome early difficulties in her life and pursue her academic and scientific career to benefit all of humanity, particularly the youth. On being selected by CEO Magazine as one of the most powerful Arab women for 2012, she said: “The real power within women lies in science and academic life, in looking forward to the future and focusing on achievement and creativity.” All her discoveries and inventions have made the work of doctors easier. The bio-chip, which is one of her inventions, can test blood in a matter of seconds.
