Faisal, Emir of Makkah region, chaired the 2nd meeting of the Higher Committee for the Development of Taif Governorate, the body set up to help grow the local Taif economy. The meeting included Prince Dr. Mansour Bin Mit'eb Bin Abdul Aziz, Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs, Prince Sultan Bin Salman, President of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) and Dr. Ibrahim Al-Assaf, Minister of Finance. The body was set up by King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, after receiving a proposal from Prince Khaled, the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs, and the SCTA President. The body is expected to oversee a number of urban, tourism and economic projects that would restore Taif Governorate's status as a top domestic tourist destination and boost its economic position in the country. During the meeting held Wednesday at the SCTA headquarters in Riyadh, the committee reviewed its work and future tasks. The committee approved the hiring of a consultant to study the development of Taif with a team of national experts and experienced specialists; the mechanism for following up the study project during the specified period; allocation of the required budget; and the formation of an executive committee with Taif Mayoralty as its headquarters. The project committee will be chaired by the Emir of Makkah with the related government administrations in the governorate as members.
