The Syrian regime would not continue suppressing and killing its own people if it had not known that it could count on the support of some other countries. Unfortunately, there are countries which lend such support, although they are aware of the regime's butchery. Russia and China have vetoed an Arab-backed resolution by the UN Security Council condemning the killings in Syria. There are also other countries which are turning a blind eye to the butchery. The Syrian people have been suffering because some countries have lost their conscience. This makes it difficult for the international community and the Arab world to stop the killings in Syria. It is disappointing that countries like Russia and China are willing to sacrifice the lives of thousands of people because of their vested interests in Syria and that they have become so callous that they do not even feel a sense of guilt, or at least pity. It seems that the only thing that the world community and the Arab countries can do now is to denounce the brutal crackdown of the Syrian regime. The Syrian people are paying the price for the world's inability to help them. There is a humanitarian crisis in Syria. The regime is committing genocide against the Syrian people. The Free Syrian Army is trying to protect the Syrian people amid global inaction, but it is too weak to make even its presence felt. History will remember that there was a time when the world just stood by while people of one nation were being killed before their eyes because there were large nations which had closed their hearts to human suffering. The world should not stop looking for ways to help the Syrian people free themselves from the brutal hands of the regime of Bashar Al-Assad. History tells us that evil does not succeed forever, and that there will come a time for retribution. __
