Divorcee says ex-husband rigged her nationality status
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 29 - 02 - 2012

The Control and Investigation Board (CIB) and Al-Faisaliya Police are investigating complaints by a 50-year-old woman that the General Court and Civil Service tampered with its file after she was divorced from her husband, who deprived her and her kids of their national identity.
Shakhsa Saleh Mohsin claims her ex-husband, who tortured her kids and threatened to kill her, colluded to change the data on her civil service file. She claims he had her name dropped from the Civil Service file and changed her data to “Suspended divorcee” after she was included in his ID. She also claims that her ex-husband deprived her of her Saudi citizenship as her dead father didn't have a national ID despite being a Saudi national.
“Two officials at the General Court and Civil Service helped my ex-husband tamper with information. I was married to him for 35 years and gave birth to 15 kids. He married off my sons and daughters without my presence and he didn't let me attend their wedding ceremonies,” she said.
Shakhsa doesn't have any national ID now and can't go to hospitals or benefit from social insurance. She filed a complaint to the Emir of Najran who directed the CIB and police to investigate the case.
“After he married a second wife, he started mistreating me and humiliating me although I'm over 50 years old. He once threatened to kill me and pointed the gun at my head and that's why I asked him to divorce me. I filed a complaint at the police to investigate his threats and my ex-husband sent my divorce letter to me. I went to the court to prove my divorce but he only came to court by force to divorce me,” she said.
Shakhsa claims that one of the employees at the court helped her ex-husband tamper with her personal information and deprived her of her national ID. Shakhsa has pleaded with authorities to help her and allow her to visit her children as she hasn't seen them for a long time.
Col. Abdul Rahman Al-Shamrani, police spokesman in the region, told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that an investigation into the matter is still going on. However, the director of public relations and media at CIB, Ibrahim Al-Zamil, said that it has given orders to end and process the case as soon as possible. __
