All technical and financial studies of the SR23 billion fast train network project in Makkah have been completed, and the Makkah Mayoralty will soon sign the contract for its first phase, Dr. Osama Al-Bar, Makkah Mayor, said, adding that the project will be put up for tender and implementation. The project will be partially financed by the King Abdullah Project for Makkah Development, while the other parts of the project will be in partnership with the private sector, he pointed out. “The project will be implemented in two phases, one for infrastructure and civil works, such as building bridges, tunnels and stations, while the other for mechanic works, railways, electronic networks and signals.” The rail network has four lines, each one is 183 kilometers long, of which 70 kilometers will be underground, Dr. Al-Bar added. “There are eighty eight railway stations for all three phases of the project. The first and second phases which consist of 120 kilometers will be implemented in seven years,” he noted. __
