The Vancouver Canucks halted the Detroit Red Wings' NHL-record home win streak at 23 games Thursday after they grabbed a game-tying goal in the dying seconds of the third period and prevailed in the shootout. Daniel Sedin scored his second goal of the game with a slapshot from the blueline with 16 seconds left in the third period to tie the score at 3-3 with Vancouver goalie Roberto Luongo on the bench in favor of an extra attacker. After a scoreless overtime period, Alex Burrows faked then quickly pulled the puck to his backhand and lifted a shot over Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard for the only goal of the shootout. “It's nice to come in this building and end that streak,” Burrows said. “It's a remarkable streak. At the same time, you want to measure yourself against the top teams in the league.” The Red Wings held the lead three times in the game, but the Canucks fought back each time. Anaheim 3, Carolina 2: Saku Koivu scored the game-winning goal in the second round of the shootout, leading the Anaheim Ducks to a 3-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes at RBC Center. Koivu picked up the puck and moved in slowly before deking to his backhand then switching to his forehand in close and sliding the puck past Hurricanes netminder Justin Peters. Jonas Hiller stopped Jeff Skinner, Eric Staal and Brandon Sutter to secure the win for the Ducks. Luca Sbisa and Corey Perry scored in regulation for the Ducks, winners in two of their last three games. Hiller finished with 30 saves on 32 shots. Minnesota 3, Florida 2 (SO): Erik Christensen netted the game-winner in the shootout to lift the Minnesota Wild over the Florida Panthers. Christensen opened the shootout with a deke to the right before moving back to the left and slipping the puck past Jose Theodore, and after Florida's Kris Versteeg failed to convert, Matt Cullen ripped a shot through Theodore's pads from the slot. In other games it was: St. Louis 3, Nashville 2 (SO); Dallas 3, Chicago 1; San Jose 2, Toronto 1; Winnipeg 4, Tampa Bay 3; Phoenix 4, Ca;gary 3 (SO); Edmonton 2, Philadelphia 0.
