Dominic Thiem's Wimbledon preparations were hit as he suffered a shock 6-3, 6-2 defeat to India's Ramkumar Ramanathan in the second round at the Antalya Open Tuesday. Thiem, who reached the French Open semifinals earlier this month, was beaten in just under an hour by Ramanathan, the world No. 222, who hit 10 aces to the Austrian's four. The world No. 8 saved three break points in the second set but struggled to land his first serve as Ramanathan secured one of his most cherished victories on the tour. "I worked really hard for this," said the 22-year-old Indian, who will meet Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus in the quarterfinals. "I like the grass. Courts are fast. I took my chances and it worked out." Wimbledon begins Monday. Ostapenko wins Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko, playing her first match since winning the French Open, survived a tough battle at the Aegon International Monday, winning a topsy-turvy contest against Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro 6-3, 0-6, 6-4. There was a shock, though, at Eastbourne's Devonshire Park as defending champion Dominika Cibulkova suffered a second-round knockout by British player Heather Watson. Watson, whose ranking has slumped to 126 in the world, delighted the home crowd with a 7-5, 6-4 defeat of the fourth-seeded Slovakian. The 20-year-old Ostapenko, who got a first-rund bye, will face either Britain's fifth-seeded Johanna Konta or Romanian Sorana Cirstea in round three. There was also an early defeat for Canda's former Wimbledon runner-up Eugenie Bouchard who lost 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 to Czech Barbora Strycova. Murray pulls out World No. 1 Andy Murray pulled out of an exhibition match at London's Hurlingham Club Tuesday with a sore hip, less than a week before the start of Wimbledon. "His hip is a bit sore," said a spokesman for the Scot, who had been due to face Frenchman Lucas Pouille. Murray's withdrawal was precautionary and the two-time Wimbledon champion intended to play at the club Friday, the spokesman said. — Agencies
