Switzerland's Roger Federer won his second title at the Rotterdam Open seven years after his first as he defeated Argentine Juan Martin del Potro 6-1, 6-4 here Sunday. Federer now owns 71 career trophies after lifting his first of this season. He finished 2011 with three straight titles indoors at Basel, Paris Bercy and the London year-end championships. The victory took 30-year-old Federer's record against Del Potro to 9-2, with the Swiss winning three of four in the series after losing the 2009 US Open final to the South American. Federer, a 16-time Grand Slam winner, has now assured himself of a 12th consecutive year in which he has won at last one ATP title. “It's incredible that it took me seven years to come back and defend my title, I hope the next time is not so long. But if it is, then it means I'll be playing for another seven years,” joked the Swiss, who saved all seven break points he faced in a re-assuring 88-minute victory. Azarenka wins in Qatar Top-ranked Victoria Azarenka of Belarus shook off a lingering ankle injury to win the Qatar Open Sunday, routing Samantha Stosur of Australia 6-1, 6-2. This was Azarenka's 17th straight victory and her first title since replacing Caroline Wozniacki as No. 1 after winning the Australian Open. Azarenka showed no ill effects after twisting her right ankle in the semifinal against Agnieszka Radwanska Saturday. “It's amazing. I cant believe I could play that kind of tennis today,” Azarenka said. “I knew I wouldn't be 100 percent, so I had to change and adjust. I was just surprised today that everything was going in.” Azarenka improved to 6-0 against the Stosur after having previously beaten the Australian in November at the year-ending WTA Championships. Almagro beats Volandri Nicolas Almagro of Spain defeated Filippo Volandri of Italy 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to retain his Brazil Open title in Sao Paulo Sunday. It was his third Brazil title, making him the most successful player at the ATP Tour 250 event in Latin America's biggest country. In the semifinas, Almagro defeated countryman Albert Ramos 6-4, 7-6 (4). In the other semis, Volandri eliminated home-crowd favorite Thomaz Bellucci 5-7, 6-0, 6-2. Raonic-Istomin final Milos Raonic put on an impressive serving display with a straight set semifinal win over Ryan Harrison at the San Jose Open, avenging a loss to the American in their only previous contest. The 21-year-old Canadian moved another step closer to defending his San Jose title by spinning off 20 aces to win 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 at the $531,000 ATP Tour tournament. He advances to Sunday's final where he will face unseeded Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan who outlasted France's Julien Benneteau 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3 in a night match in the other semifinal.
