Sheikh Abdullatif Aal Al-Sheikh, the General President of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Hai'a), has approved the termination of the services of nine staffers working for the Hai'a in Qassim, a source was quoted as saying in the Arabic press Thursday. The source said the nine staffers were being investigated on the basis of a decision issued by Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Humuyen, the former chief of the Hai'a, in which he charged them with a number of violations. Investigations found them guilty. The new Hai'a chief, who was appointed last month, has promised to ensure that the Hai'a carries out its role effectively and to eradicate misconceptions about the organization. In a telephone interview with Okaz/Saudi Gazette shortly after being appointed, Aal Al-Sheikh said that officials of the Commission will be tasked with promoting virtue and preventing vice without getting involved in wrongdoing themselves. Aal Al-Sheikh is known for his moderate views.
