RIYADH — The National Anti-Corruption Commission (Nazaha) has completed investigating the violations committed by a senior official in one of the universities who exploited his authority to appoint his relatives and sons-in-law in leading positions in the university, Al-Hayat newspaper reported on Tuesday quoting well-placed sources in the commission. The sources did not identify the official nor the university but said the commission would soon froward the results of its investigations to the supreme authorities. They said Nazaha last year referred 111 cases of corruption and misuse of power by a number of government officials to the concerned control and supervisory bodies to take necessary punitive and disciplinary actions against them. The sources said the accusations against these government officials included using their power to make personal gains, forging official papers to conceal their crimes and dissipating government funds. They said, since its inception few years ago, the commission was able to regain billions of riyals which were embezzled by a number of corrupt people. The sources said last year alone Nazaha regained SR463 million which were embezzled by a number of government staff. They said the commission has, of late, forwarded to the supreme authorities reports on a number of ministers and senior executive officials who misused their power to make personal gains including the appointment of some relatives with high salaries. Nazaha also accused 10 ministries of not adhering to established norms when signing contracts to execute government projects.
