A 40-year-old man smashed seven ATM machines using an axe here early Friday. Brandishing a knife, he threatened people who tried to stop him. Police reported to the scene before the man could have reached the eighth ATM. On seeing the cops, he fled to his house. The police followed him, trying to calm him down and asking him to surrender. The police called on his tribe chief to intervene and get the man to surrender, but in vain. The man got on the roof of his house and started throwing stones at the police. Jizan police spokesman Major Ahmad Al-Wadani said that the man appeared to be mentally disturbed and police were trying to amicably help him out. __
