JAZAN — A Saudi father has filed a complaint against a public hospital in Abu Areesh after his newborn child's hand was amputated following an alleged medical mistake. Abdulaziz Makrashi said the Health Affairs is currently investigating his complaint. "My son Mansour is only 30 days old. We saw clotting of blood on his palm, which made us rush him to Abu Areesh General Hospital. The doctors took him in and realized that he was given a wrong injection. which caused the blood to clot," said Makrashi. He said he demanded the Ministry of Health to sponsor the treatment of his son abroad, so he would not have to amputate his hand. "The ministry did not approve the request and King Fahd Central Hospital in Jazan refused to admit my son, claiming they did not have enough beds. I had to take my son to a private hospital and the doctors there amputated my son's hand," said Makrashi. Jazan Health Affairs spokesman Nabil Ghawi said the directorate received Makrashi's complaint and opened an investigation. "We will question all doctors and staff connected to the case. The case will then be forwarded to the Medical Sharia Committee if a medical error was suspected," said Ghawi.
