DAMMAM — Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University in Dammam has appointed its first female dean since its opening in 1975. Sumayyah Bint Sulaiman Al-Sulaiman has taken over as the dean of the College of Design at the university. Al-Sulaiman won the post after beating several candidates who included both men and women. The university has become the second public university to appoint a woman in the position of a college dean. Earlier the University of Taif had appointed Dr. Dalal Namanqani as the dean of its Medical College. Al-Sulaiman was formally appointed by the university's president Abdullah Al-Ribaish. Al-Sulaiman has a PhD in architecture from Newcastle University in the United Kingdom. She also earned the MIT Ibn Khaldoun Fellowship. She obtained her Master's in architecture from King Faisal University. She also has several certificates in management, leadership, strategy and innovation from MIT. Al-Sulaiman won the award for the best poster for a scientific research in Newcastle University. She also won Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd Award for Scientific Excellence. She represented the Kingdom at conferences and forums in India, Austria, the United States and the United Kingdom.
