Over 400 students from Al-Marjan Primary School in Jubail Industrial City and at Ibn Al-Qayyim Middle School in Hafr Al-Batin took part in the activities, which included environmental exhibitions on the proper handling of waste materials, particularly plastic materials, as well as interactive environmental competitions through schools' public announcement systems and social media. "Sadara is proud to take part alongside other petrochemical and chemical companies in GPCA's efforts to make a significant contribution to quality of life, resource preservation and innovation in this part of the world," said Khalaf Alanazi, executive director, environment, health, safety and security at Sadara. "We are strongly committed to increasing public awareness of the importance of disposing responsibly of plastics and other industrial products, either through recycling or energy recovery." WFE, which last year covered 17 cities in 10 countries, won the title of "Best Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative of the Year" at the 7th Oil and Gas and Refining and Petrochemicals Middle East Awards in recognition of its success in spreading awareness and adoption of a culture of environmental protection that views waste recycling as a way of life. Sadara is a joint venture developed by the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) and The Dow Chemical Company. With a total investment of about $20 billion, Sadara is building a world-scale chemical complex in Jubail Industrial City II in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province. Comprised of 26 world scale manufacturing units, the Sadara complex is the world's largest to be built in a single phase and will be the first in the Middle East to use refinery liquids, such as naphtha, as feedstock. By using best-in-class technologies to crack refinery liquid feedstock, Sadara will enable many industries that either currently do not exist in Saudi Arabia or only exist through imports of raw materials. The adjacent PlasChem Park, a unique collaboration between Sadara and the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu', will create more value downstream, generating unprecedented investment, innovation, economic growth and thousands of jobs.
