TABUK — A hospital is under investigation for mistakenly giving away a newborn to the wrong family. Tabuk Health Directorate spokesman Atallah Al-Amrani said the directorate received reports from Fahd Al-Attar that King Fahd Specialized Hospital has informed him that they have erroneously replaced his newborn daughter with another. "The directorate formed an investigative committee to look into the incident. The directorate would like to apologize to Mr. Al-Attar for the embarrassing negligence and it promised to penalize the people responsible for the error," said Al-Amrani. Fahd Al-Attar said he was shocked when he was handed over a baby boy instead of his daughter. "I asked the nurses where my daughter was and they told me that they have made a mistake and had given my daughter away to another family. The family that had my daughter had a boy and they lived 160 km away from Tabuk. Meanwhile, the other family's newborn was in the intensive care unit at the hospital," said Al-Attar. He also said he was shocked by such a reckless mistake and asked how could the nurses be so careless. "I filed a complaint against the hospital to the health directorate. I don't understand how could they let a newborn out of the hospital within hours of the birth. I instructed the nurses not to tell my wife about the swap because I don't want her to lose her sanity," said Al-Attar. Al-Attar was further shocked to know that a deputy manager came to his wife and questioned her about her mental health and about any problems in her marriage. "I will get my daughter back after I do the DNA test and the comprehensive checkup and then I will demand punishment for the responsible people," said Al-Attar.
