One rioter was killed and three others injured in Al-Shwaikah District in the Eastern Province town of Al-Qatif, a spokesman of the Eastern Province police said Friday. “While police vehicles were making their usual patrol, they were fired at by some masked persons. The police returned the fire that resulted in casualties,” the spokesman said. The injured were rushed to King Fahd Medical Complex but one rioter died on the way to the hospital, the spokesman said. He warned that policemen will be strict with any cases or situations that threaten the security and safety of citizens and residents. Miscreants have occasionally been indulging in rioting in the Eastern Province since last March. The Interior Ministry in November said security forces had come under fire from gunmen operating on “foreign orders.” On Jan. 24, the Interior Ministry announced that Saudi authorities arrested nine people accused of wounding three policemen in the region.
