The 27th Janadriya Festival for Heritage and Culture was inaugurated Wednesday by King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, in Janadriya Village some 43 km from Riyadh. The mission of this festival is to depict the culture and heritage of the Kingdom. The concept of heritage does not refer only to folklore, arts, poetry and antiquities, but also to the history of man through the ages and the challenges he has faced. It is the story of the people of this land who remained steadfast in times of poverty and difficult circumstances. Despite difficulties, they stood high and remained proud of their heritage and continued to search for a way to earn their living. The Janadriya Festival depicts our inherited ability to reinforce our sense of belonging to this great land and to feel proud of being one of its citizens. Culture, on the other hand, has a different concept in the Janadriya Festival, a concept which is deeper than the beauty of poetry and literature. The culture depicted in the festival is one that reflects our realization and understanding of the political, cultural, social and economic events that have been sweeping the world. It links us to each other. This is the mission of the Janadriya Festival which we should all accept and understand. __
