RIYADH — Nadwa Alumni Association Riyadh recently organized an interactive symposium on Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and its impact on the Indian Muslims where scholars discussed various aspects of UCC and its implications. Addressing the huge gathering of over 300 Indian expatriates, prominent businessman Rashid Ali Shaikh, who graced the event as guest of honor, pleaded that the magnificence of the Islamic law must be disseminated among the non-Muslims. The program commenced with recitation of few verses from the Holy Qur'an by Abdul Wajid Nadwi, followed by a detailed and comprehensive presentation on Islamic Law by Abdul Mateen Nadvi in light of the review of the recited verses. Then, Zakir Azmi Nadvi presented his paper on historical and legal perspective of UCC and Muslim Personal Law. "The government and judicial interventions in the Muslim Personal Law cannot be avoided unless the Indian Muslims themselves strictly follow the Shariah guidelines and consult Darul Qaza in case arising conflicts rather than ordinary courts," he said, adding: "Clerics and imams must raise awareness among the common men about the beauty of Islamic Law." While enlightening the audience about the laws instituted by Qur'an and Sunnah, Tariq Akhtar Nadvi appealed that Muslims must follow strictly the Shariah laws. "We must present the practical examples of our Shariah to the non-Muslims so that they can properly understand," he said. On the occasion, renowned poet of Riyadh, Khurshidul Hasan Nayyar, thrilled the audience with his fascinating poetry dealing with current issues in India. The second session started with a valuable paper presented by Akhtarul Islam Nadvi wherein he discussed in details various important issues relating to marriage and divorce. "It is a matter of great shame that we Muslims pay much attention to the career of our children, but are least bothered about religious education of them," he lamented. The final paper of the program was presented by Mohammad Ahsan Nadvi in which he highlighted the challenges and issues facing the Muslim minority worldwide. Veteran NRI Salim Zubaid also spoke on the occasion. The event was presided over by eminent scholar Husail Zulqarnain, moderated by Imtiyaz Ahmed Nadvi and vote of thank was proposed by Danish Anwar Nadvi.
