Milan saw it all. Men's fashion ruled the runway and revived several new trends this week. The way sports-luxe thread has woven it's way throughout contemporary menswear and celebrities fashioning looks that are inspired by pure imagination- we love every moment of it. Gucci and Bottega Veneta are sitting out this round but don't worry they will combine mens and womenswear previews next month.
This week, we have picked out our favorite looks and trends you cannot miss.
1. Athleisure or sporting chic- call it whatever you want. But this look isn't going anywhere. Probably everyone's favorite this year, from streetwear to high-end brands, everyone loves it. Check out this look from Ermenegildo Zegna at Milan men's fashion week. Alessandro Sartori, the former creative director of Berluti, showcased his first collection since being named Zegna's artistic director. Phillip Plein also tapped into the luxury aspect of sportswear. "Active sportswear is one of the biggest segments, but we don't have even one luxury alternative," Plein said. The German designer decided to launch his new Plein Sport line when he realized the biggest grossing textile companies were Adidas and Nike.
2. Chunky Shoes- Francesco Risso, previously at Prada, presented his first collection for Marni. Marni also worked with Achilles Ion Gabriel, a Paris-based shoe designer who also loves chunky shoes that are a Marni trademark. Lets not forget Italian menswear produced 9 billion euros last year. This season we saw a series of flamboyant chunky sneakers, with thick rubber creeper soles. But Baldinini upgraded the classics by styling them with traditional silhouettes.
3. Lets talk about Marcelo Burlon and his non-conformist ideas. Guests at his show got more than a new collection. They were serenaded by a 16 piece classical performance from the Milan Chamber Orchestra that went surprisingly well with his streetwear theme. Reflecting Gaucho vibes with flamboyant wide brimmed hats and Chelsea and laced up boots, he also added rapper Future's Reebok collection.
4. Versace was bold, edgy and super fun. A conscious effort and more grown up, the collection is modest in comparison to what we have seen last year. The collection is definitely young spirited. Orange was the favorite and brightest hue this season, paired with statement jackets and conservative silhouettes. We are just grateful to not see those Medusa head sneakers.
5. Dolce & Gabbana capitalized on star power on the runway. Playing by the rules, the brand uses the right marketing mix for Millennials. Sylvester Stallone's daughters Sophia, and Sistine, Lionel Richie's daughter Sofia Richie and social media star Cameron Dallas walked the runway. The new collection includes playful emojis, embellishments, Harajuku and humanized animal motifs- encompassing all the fun things for Milennials this season.
6. Giorgio Armani stayed true to classics and added a contemporary flair to its youthful Emporio Armani line with pleated trousers, and curved hemlines even on short jackets that works for new age fashion. The prestigious brand reinvented classic looks with velvets and fur
