Many mothers complain that their sons and daughters do not like school. This is not because they hate doing homework, it is because their sons or daughters are bullied, intimidated, physically or verbally abused, humiliated or ridiculed by their peers. Bullying is dangerous. It is not something temporary that goes away when a child becomes an adult. The effect of bullying, on the bully and the victim, continues even after they grow older. There is a difference between an altercation that takes place between two students of the same age who have the same strength and between two students who are not equal in terms of strength. The effects of bullying continue to manifest themselves in a bully's character over the years. At some point in the future, the bully might engage in criminal and terrorist activities subversive to the country. If we study bullying in depth, we find that it is the root of many crimes. Many bullies have grown up to become dangerous criminals who pose a threat to national security. Bullying is not only dangerous to the bully, but also to all of those involved, including those supporting the action and the victim who is humiliated and mistreated. The victim might have been bullied because he is an outstanding student, or is of a different ethnicity or social class. The real problem lies in the fact that most teachers do not spot bullies and are unable to recognize them. On the other hand, some teachers have a weak personality and are themselves scared of bullies. A bully's family usually does not accept the fact that their son or daughter is a bully. So how should we deal with this problem? It is completely wrong to punish a bully. Schools and families should not resort to punishment to curb bullying because this has a temporary effect and might drive the bully to further engage in bullying. Education and sociology experts encourage teachers to talk about bullying in class without pointing fingers at particular students. They should engage students in discussion and ask them to find solutions to the problem. The most important thing here is to make the bully feel as if he were the real victim so that he gets a taste of his or her medicine. Terrorists or dangerous criminals do not become dangerous overnight, there has to be some kind of behavioral problem that they have been suffering from since childhood. They could be bullies or victims who wait patiently for a chance to take revenge. We should all closely watch the behavior of our sons and daughters at home and at school and try to come up with efficient solutions to deal with such problems or else our sons and daughters could grow up to become dangerous members of society in the future.
