Goats Town people seek water and basic services
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 14 - 12 - 2016

MAKKAH — People living in the Goats Town located toward the northern areas of Makkah are suffering from thirst and drought. This is attributed to the increasing construction of buildings that has made old well in the town extinct.
Locals are surprised as they are struggling to find water while Al-Aziziyah water pipes are passing through their town to provide water to places that are far away from them.
Speaking to Okaz/Saudi Gazette, people in the town remembered with regret the old days when they used to get water from their own well. Now they have to stand in lines in order to fill tanks of water.
The area also lacks a number of basic services. In addition, the area has a two-way narrow road which is witnessing an increasing number of accidents.
Hamad Al-Luhyani said that the town was small and had a few number of residents who used to get water for their daily use from the well. They used to provide water to their sheep tpp. The well, he said, used to provide them with pure water but after the contraction in the town the well got buried. He added that the town is now more known as it is located not far from Al-Jiranah where pilgrims pass by to don their Ihram.
Sultan Al-Luhyani, another resident, said that there is an urgent need to repair the road, expand it and make a clear distinction between the two-way road. He also demanded putting lights at the side of the road and provide traffic police at the location to monitor the traffic on the road and reduce the number of car accidents.
Many Burmese people (people from Myanmar) have moved to the town after the development around the Grand Mosque in Makkah. It is estimated that some 10,000 of Burmese are moving to the town and they have constructed schools which were later closed down by the Ministry of Education and the students were sent to Al-Nuwariya districts.
