Published in The Saudi Gazette on 13 - 07 - 2008

Qatar Entertainment City, Abu Dhabi Investment House's unique mega mixed-use development in Qatar - has signed a development agreement with United Real Estate Company, Kuwait, to develop the first of five districts in Qatar Entertainment City - Qatar's first integrated family destination.
The $3 billion development, also commercially known as Tarfeeh City, covers one million square meters of land including one kilometer of prime Gulf beach-front, and is the anchor development for Lusail, the 35 square kilometer northern expansion of the Qatari capital, Doha. The deal between Qatar Entertainment City and United Real Estate Company (UREC) will see the development of the southern section of City, known as South Shore.
The site, which covers 75,500 square meters, is valued at QAR955million.
Board member and Managing Director of Abu Dhabi Investment House and Chairman of Qatar Entertainment City Rashad Y. Janahi said: “At Abu Dhabi Investment House, we pride ourselves on finding the best possible partners for each and every stage of our developments. This agreement with United Real Estate Company will ensure that the homes and amenities within South Shore at Qatar Entertainment City are developed to the very highest standards. This commitment to quality is essential to our vision of creating a world-leading family entertainment destination, and accelerating Qatar's growth as a tourism and leisure destination.”
The South Shore district will feature a resort-style blend of villas, apartments and beach hotels set in a waterfront living environment surrounded by world class retail, leisure and entertainment destinations.
Yousef Ali Darwish, general manager, Qatar Entertainment City, said: “This deal marks the start of a very exciting phase for Qatar Entertainment City as we begin the development of the first of our five distinct city districts. South Shore is being created with a real focus on the family and community aspects of life, and will play an integral role in ensuring Qatar Entertainment City provides the optimum mix of world-class entertainment, leisure, retail and residential amenities.”
Abdul Aziz Jassem Al-Failakawi, vice CEO, United Real Estate Company, said: “We see a real and growing demand across the GCC for homes and holiday homes that balance quality and community with desirability. With the development of Qatar Entertainment City's South Shore we will be crafting outstanding homes and communities that deliver the lifestyle benefits we know buyers across the region are hungry for.”
Qatar Entertainment City's entertainment facilities will include state-of-the-art theme park, as well as the South Shore district, the City includes Down Town - a vibrant leisure, retail and entertainment hub at the heart of the development; Board Walk - set on the Gulf shore with beach-front restaurants and shopping malls and five star hotels. North Shore - with residential and hotel towers and modern apartments adjacent to a state-of-the-art theme park; and The Villas - a residential district in a prime location close to the Down Town hub and a nature reserve.
Each of the five districts will be linked by a canal, with water taxis and air-conditioned tracks meandering through luxury villas, sea view apartments, five star hotels, boardwalks, beaches, restaurants, cafes, shops and world-class entertainment zones. __
