There is nothing more bizarre than officials who are responsible for developing our cities indulging themselves in setting up committees, sending delegations abroad and holding seminars on reducing noise while our cities are in dire need of proper sewage systems and good roads without potholes. There is nothing more bizarre than officials involved in education using our schools as laboratories for their educational experiments. They travel as far east as Japan and as far west as the US and then come back and report that using computers and iPads is the way to meet educational attainment targets. This takes place while schools are in disarray. Our schools are housed in rented buildings and without course material. There is confusion among teachers in relation to transfers and appointments, and an inability to invest in admin people. There is nothing more bizarre than health officials talking about making our hospitals technology-friendly while patients have difficulty finding vacant beds. Our pharmacies lack many types of medicines and appointments with doctors come after people have already died. We need these officials to be humble and acknowledge reality and take the necessary steps to address these issues. If this can be achieved, then we can trust them to achieve more. At the moment, it seems that they are only concerned with very high ambitions that cannot be attained.
