Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman has ordered the renovation of a number of historical mosques in Madinah as part of restoring hundreds of historical mosques across the Kingdom, said Prince Sultan Bin Salman, president of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTNH), on Tuesday. He was speaking at a workshop on "Care of Historical Mosques," which started in Madinah on Monday under the aegis of Madinah Emir Prince Faisal Bin Salman. The event was organized by SCTNH in collaboration with the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance and the Legacy Charity Foundation. Prince Sultan also announced the establishment of a fund to renovate the historical mosques in Madinah so as to enable the public to make donations to implement the project. "The initiative has so far received an overwhelming response, with several businessmen and philanthropists coming forward with donations to renovate as many as 14 historical mosques in the city," he said while urging more people to contribute to make the project a great success. Prince Sultan offered donations to renovate two historical mosques in Madinah province. They are Al-Anbariyah Mosque in Madinah and Al-Sakhra Mosque in Al-Ula while Madinah Emir Prince Faisal Bin Salman made contributions to renovate Ijabah Mosque in Madinah. Sheikh Abdurahman Al-Sudais, head of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, Sheikh Saleh Al-Maghamesi, imam of Quba Mosque, and several other scholars and officials attended the workshop. It is estimated that there are 53 historical mosques in need o a facelift in Madinah region. Meanwhile, Prince Sultan made on Tuesday an inspection tour of major projects and heritage sites in the historical area in Yanbu. He also signed an agreement to establish a public museum in the historical area
