nasair, the Saudi National Carrier, has announced it will be suspending flights between Kerala (Calicut), India, and Saudi Arabia effective February 2, 2012. Turki Al-Jawini, Deputy Chief Commercial Officer, said that nasair is undergoing a comprehensive review regarding network efficiency and the review identified Calicut as a non-competent route, leading to the decision to suspend services for the coming months. Al-Jawini added that nasair future market operations will continue to be evaluated and that flights to/from Calicut could be reinstated later in the year. He said that most customers, whose contacts were correctly given when making their original booking, have been contacted by nasair staff in India and Saudi Arabia. Those who have booked but have not yet been contacted are asked to contact nasair offices in Saudi Arabia, or the GSA in Calicut, and they will be provided with a full refund. Al-Jawini expressed his regret on behalf of nasair for the inconvenience caused by the withdrawal from Calicut and assured all customers with bookings for flights beyond February 2 that their refunds would be processed immediately in Saudi Arabia, or within one week of request in India.
