Schimpf lifts Padres past Giants 6–4
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 15 - 09 - 2016

Rookie Ryan Schimpf belted a two-out, two-strike, three-run home run in the ninth inning Tuesday night, capping a five-run rally that lifted the San Diego Padres to a stunning, 6-4 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
Home runs by Angel Pagan and Gorkys Hernandez helped the Giants take a 4-1 lead into the ninth.
However, the fifth Giants pitcher, Hunter Strickland, gave up three singles and a bases-loaded walk to Wil Myers with one out, allowing the Padres to creep within 4-2. Strickland got Yangervis Solarte to ground out, scoring Jon Jay, before rookie left-hander Steven Okert was summoned from the bullpen to face the lefty-hitting Schimpf.
Seeking his first career save, Okert got his rival in a 1-2 hole before Schimpf unloaded on the potentially game-ending pitch, launching it into the bleachers in right-center field for a three-run homer.
Yankees 3, Dodgers 0: Jacoby Ellsbury and Didi Gregorius homered on consecutive pitches with one out in the seventh inning, lifting New York to a victory over Los Angeles.
Ellsbury capped a nine-pitch at-bat by lifting a full count curveball from Ross Stripling into the second deck in right field. Gregorius batted for Ronald Torreyes and sent Stripling's fastball into the right-center field seats.
The Yankees won for the eighth time in 10 games.
Diamondbacks 11, Rockies 4: Jean Segura hit two home runs, and Brandon Drury went deep for the second straight game in Arizona's victory over Colorado.
Segura, Yasmany Tomas and Paul Goldschmidt had three hits apiece, and Segura, Tomas and Welington Castillo had two RBIs each as Arizona won consecutive home games for the first time since July 16-17.
Segura homered in a four-run first inning after Colorado scored three runs in the top of the frame off Robbie Ray (8-13), who gave up four runs and struck out seven in five innings.
Marlins 7, Braves 5: Ichiro Suzuki, not showing his age at 42, reached 900 multi-hit games in majors with his 26th of the season and second in as many games as Miami defeated Atlanta.
Suzuki, who has 3,027 career hits in the majors, recorded a triple and single to lift his average .304, drew a walk, scored two runs and delivered an RBI the day after a three-hit game.
Matt Kemp hit his 31st homer and Freddie Freeman reached 30 for the first time in a three-RBI game for the Braves. Christian Yelich was 2-for-3 with a double, drew two walks, drove in two runs and scored one for the Marlins.
Reds 6, Brewers 4: Joey Votto homered and Adam Duvall doubled twice and drove in two runs, lifting Cincinnati over Milwaukee at Great American Ball Park.
Votto went 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs, raising his batting average to .318 after a slow start to the season.
Cincinnati's five-game winning streak matches its longest of the season.
Chris Carter, Keon Broxton and Jonathan Villar homered for Milwaukee which has dropped five of its last six to the Reds.
Elsewhere it was: Twins 8, Tigers 1; Rays 6, Blue Jays 2; Athletics 5, Royals 4; Pirates 5, Phillies 3; Mets 4, Nationals 3 (10 innings); Orioles 6, Red Sox 3; Rangers 3, Astros 2; White Sox 8, Indians 1; Cardinals 4, Cubs 2; Mariners 8, Angels 0.
