Saudi Gazette MANILA — The GlobalPort Batang Pier blew past the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the endgame to score a thrilling come-from-behind 101-99 victory in a PBA Governors' Cup out-of-town game in Legazpi City Saturday night. It was the third straight win for the Batang Pier after losing their first four games, allowing them to tie the Painters and idle Phoenix Fuel Masters at sixth to eighth place in the leaderboard. Top gunner Terrence Romeo once again led GlobalPort with 33 points and five assists. But the go-ahead basket came from Jay Washington who finished with 11 markers. Import Michael Glover posted 18 points and 11 rebounds while Stanley Pringle added 16 markers, including seven of his team's first nine points in the fourth quarter. A booming three-pointer by Pringle in the final canto allowed the Batang Pier to tie the game at 85-all. The Painters quickly regained the lead and were still up by five points, 97-92, with less than four minutes left. GlobalPort then unleashed a 9-2 run, including a Washington putback that gave the Batang Pier the lead, 100-99, with 27 seconds left. The Painters still had a chance to wrest back the lead, but Jericho Cruz missed a three-point shot from the left corner. GlobalPort's Yousef Taha grabbed the rebound and was fouled. He split his charities to give the Batang Pier a precarious two-point lead, 101-99. The Painters still had a chance to either tie the game and send it to overtime, or win outright with a three-pointer with less than two seconds left. But import Dior Lowhorn missed a point-blank shot that spelled doom for his team. The Batang Pier didn't field recently acquired Asian import Tyler Lamb, who just sat in the sidelines. Lowhorn led Rain or Shine with 21 points, Beau Belga added 17 while Paul Lee and Chris Tiu chipped in 11 and 10 markers, respectively. Games Sunday: Alaska Aces (2-5) vs. Blackwater Elite (1-6) and Star Hotshots (1-5) vs. Barangay Ginebra Kings (5-2).
