Easier commute with ‘repeat' feature in Careem Mobile App
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 19 - 08 - 2016

IN the Careem app, there are two types of bookings: "NOW", which brings the user a car in minutes, and "LATER" which brings a car at a scheduled time. "LATER" bookings allow users to schedule daily/weekly rides in advance.
The "REPEAT" feature is unique to "LATER" bookings only, and allows user to have a scheduled car at their doorstep. The availability of "NOW" and "LATER" may vary, depending on the selected car type and city.
The process of using each of them is straightforward: The user runs the app, selects "NOW" or "LATER". . "Ride NOW" brings the user a car as soon as possible. "Ride LATER"" brings a car at a later time of the day, week, or month. The user chooses the date and time (15-minute slot or a fixed time selection depending on the selected car type).
Activating the "REPEAT" toggle takes the user to a monthly calendar in which they can pinpoint booking time and date in advance, and have a car at their doorstep repeatedly without having to book prior.
The "REPEAT" feature lets the user book more than once as required. The user simply chooses the date and time from a calendar in the app for when they would need a car.
Some car types have a booking window. Careem guarantees that the captain (driver) will arrive within the bookings window 99% of the time. Other car types like the Business car type have a specific booking time.
Careem guarantees that the captain will arrive exactly on time 95% of the time, and 99% of the times no later than 5 minutes. If a driver does not show up on a certain date and time, they can call Careem's hotline 920033786 before the ride or email the company afterwards, if needed.
The pickup and destination locations entered in the primary booking will be reflected on all repeated bookings the users makes. They can also save as many favorite locations as they want, to give it easy to remember names (e.g. work, home, mom's, etc.) and for faster access in future bookings.
Because users are billed at the end of each ride, they are granted the flexibility of changing ride details by canceling existing ride (within 2 hours of car arrival, except for GO which can be canceled 30 minutes before scheduled ride) and rebooking based on their updated preference.
The user can also change the destination while the ride is in-progress.
They can also cancel their rides without paying any fees up to 2 hours of the scheduled ride for all car types, except for GO which can be cancelled 30 minutes before the scheduled ride.
For "REPEAT" bookings, once a car type is chosen at the time of booking, it is static and cannot be changed. For "LATER" bookings, the type of vehicle can be changed. Users can also call the call center to manually adjust the "REPEAT" customer's request.
There is a small premium for booking "LATER" vs "NOW", however there is no premium for using the "REPEAT" scheduling feature of "LATER" bookings. Ride cost is affected by the Time of day/peak timing, car type, distance (km) and waiting time (at doorstep and in-traffic). Upon scheduling "REPEAT" rides, a promo code can be entered, however it cannot be altered upon confirmation.
These services are exclusive to one account, however, a user can book for family members through their own account. They are available in all of Careem's 29 cities across 10 countries in the Middle East and North Africa, and they are Abu Dhabi, Alexandria, Al Ahsa, Al Khubar, Al Qasseem, Al Madina, Amman, Beirut, Cairo, Casablanca, Dammam, Dharah, Doha, Dubai, Jeddah, Jubail, Karachi, Kuwait, Lahore, Makkah, Manama, North Coast of Egypt, Rabat, Ras Al Khaima, Riyadh and Sharjah.
Careem is the region's leading app-based car service that makes ordering chauffeur-driven cars reliable, safe, convenient, and affordable. Its customers can book a car on the CAREEM apps and website, or by calling a call center. CAREEM is a pioneering company in the region's nascent ‘sharing economy' – its mission is to make people's lives simpler by revolutionizing the transportation and logistics industry in the region.
Careem recently announced the launch of ‘Careem One' in Saudi Arabia, which caters for passengers with disabilities. The first app service in the region that offers transportation solutions to people with disabilities and the elderly. The announcement is in line with Saudi Arabia's 2030 Vision to improve equal opportunities for Saudis and is sponsored by The Ministry of Labor.
Careem has brought a new fleet of specially-adapted vehicles into its network and modified its reservation system so passengers with disabilities can order on demand transport that suits their specific requirements at the click of a button.
