MANILA — The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters shrugged off the ejection of their head coach as they erased an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to bring down the Alaska Aces, 117-114, in the PBA Governors' Cup Saturday night. Import Dior Lowhorn paced the Painters, finishing with 24 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. But it was the duo of Paul Lee and JR Quinahan that carried ROS to victory in the final quarter. The two banged in a flurry of three-pointers in the final period to combine for 18 points. Lee finished with 18 points and four assists while Quinahan had 16 markers and five assists. Chris Tiu and Jeff Chan added 13 and 10 points, respectively. ROS head coach Yeng Guiao was ejected late in the third quarter for incurring his second technical foul due to excessive complaining to the referees. The Painters nailed their third win in five outings despite the breakout game of Alaska import LaDontae Henton who exploded for 41 points on only 23 field goal attempts in the game. Calvin Abueva tallied 17 points and eight rebounds for Alaska before fouling out with a minute left in the game. Alaska suffered a third straight loss and fourth overall in five games. TNT KaTropa 109, Blackwater 89 The pace-setting TNT KaTropa went on a fourth quarter rampage to rout the Blackwater Elite, 109-89, to stay alone at the top of the standings with their fifth straight win. Veteran Ranidel de Ocampo showed flashes of his old deadly form, topscoring with 20 points, making up for the limited production of top gunner Jayson Castro who only arrived at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum in the second half allegedly due to a "freak accident" apparently involving his wife and newborn baby. Castro still managed to score seven points on 1 of 3 shooting on top of five assists, playing for just 16 minutes. He hurriedly left the coliseum after the game and went straight to the hospital. New TNT import Mychal Ammons debuted in the PBA with 18 points and 18 rebounds. Ammons, who replaced Mario Little, only showed his full offensive might in the fourth quarter where he racked up 10 points to help the KaTropa pull away, 107-87. Troy Rosario and Asian import Michel Madanly chipped in with 16 and 15 markers, respectively. The Elite, who slumped to their fourth defeat in five games, suffered a double whammy as they lost their starting center JP Erram to a knee injury in the second quarter and then their import Eric Dawson to back spasm in the fourth quarter. Reil Cervantes led Blackwater with 22 points. Dawson scored 13 markers and 10 rebounds before being sidelined by his injury. Blackwater is still reeling from the loss of big man Gilbert Bulawan who died during a team practice more than a month ago due to an undiagnosed heart ailment. Erram's suspected MCL injury could be huge not only for Blackwater but also for the new Gilas team being formed for the FIBA Asia Challenge Cup set in Tehran, Iran, next month. Erram is considered as the top center option in the 24-man Gilas pool which does not include naturalized player Andray Blatche and any big name PBA stars. Games Sunday: GlobalPort Batang Pier (0-4) vs. Meralco Bolts (3-2) and San Miguel Beermen (3-1) vs. Barangay Ginebra Kings (4-1).
