Women-only complex fails to attract telecom investors
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 10 - 08 - 2016

RIYADH — The women-only telecommunication complex has failed to attract Saudi women vendors.
A source said the women-only complex opened last week and there has not been any Saudi woman who was interested to rent a place and sell her mobile related products.
"Workers at the complex used the empty and unoccupied space to set up their breakfast on the floor and just eat there. The operator of the number given for leasing inquiries said the leasing agreement of the stores available there includes a down payment of three months' rent in advance and three months rent free. The offer applies to even women who are working with a regular salary," said the source.
The source also said the opening of the complex was widely covered by the media and was heavily advertised.
"The Ministry of Labor and Social Development supervisor Saad Al-Qahtani said the complex is more active at night. He also said any women wishing to rent a store must show the commercial number of her business," said the source.
The source added the complex is considered the first of its kind. "It is located in Al-Rimal District. Its opening ceremony was attended by the Ministry of Labor and Social Development National Reform Program Director Ibrahim Al-Shafi, Labor and Social Development Special Programs Deputy Minister Abdulmunim Al-Shihry, the owner of the complex Abdulrahman Al-Himaid, investors and a number of young Saudi men and women," said the source.
The owner said the complex is equipped with everything women need and it has a suitable working environment for them.
"There are restrooms, a lounge, a buffet, 24 hours security and there are buses for transportation. We offer three months rent free for the investors that wish to try the business before committing to the rent and to a permanent spot at the complex," said the source.
