Mazin Muhammad Batarji, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, inaugurated Saturday the first international textile exhibition for the industry of ready-made clothes and fashions. Some eight Saudi and international companies are participating in the three-day exhibition which was inaugurated at Hilton Hotel and attended by businessmen, investors, consul-generals and those interested in clothes and textiles. The exhibition is organized by Alagat Company for Organizing International Exhibitions and Conferences. Osama Kurdi, president of Alagat Company, said that “Major Saudi, Arab and international companies are offering new line 2012. The Syrian pavilion offers modern men's, women's and children's clothes as well as lingerie and sportswear.” Kurdi expected that the exhibition will see signing of contracts between Saudi companies and their Egyptian and Syrian counterparts. The size of ready-made clothes and textiles market in the Kingdom is estimated to be SR8 billion. The Saudi market imports over 85,000 tons of clothes and texiles, 90 % percent of which is imported from Italy, France, Thailand, Taiwan, China in addition to some Arab countries.
