Saudi Gazette Abusinessman and Harvard Law and Business graduate who is hoping to be chosen as presidential candidate of the Republican Party, Mitt Romney speaks of offering hope for the rebuilding of America's deteriorating economy. Romney has spent much of his life in the private sector, starting as a business consultant before creating his own investment firm. He later became the CEO of the company where he was once a consultant. His knowledge of the economy and its ups and down, has helped his poll numbers. Romney is the son of a former governor of Michigan who started as a carpenter and rose to become a politician through hard work. Romney's campaign is focused on reducing taxes, spending to make money circulate and government programs aimed at increasing trade, energy production, human capital and labor flexibility. Romney does not claim to have solutions to every problem but believes in relinquishing power to the states. He adopted the slogan “we have a moral responsibility to not spend more than what we earn”. He is seeking the US presidency to save America from what he describes as the Obama-induced economic crisis and to provide better health care while saving money and strengthen his country with a stress on foreign policy. With his businessman's mindset, Romney, if elected, is expected to become a “CEO President” because of his keenness for data, analysis and presenting arguments with PowerPoint presentation rather than presidential speeches. After becoming the 70th governor of Massachusetts, Romney supported raising fees such as those for driver's licenses, marriage licenses, and gun licenses and brought $300 million into the state's coffer. He also generated about $60 million per year in additional revenues by increasing a special gasoline retailers' fee by two cents per gallon. As governor, he signed the Massachusetts health reform law, which required almost all Massachusetts residents to have health insurance coverage. The law also provided support for people who do not have adequate employers' insurance or those who do not meet the required income threshold. The law, which was said to be the first of its kind in the US, became Romney's signature achievement during his term of office. With his “Believe in America” slogan, Romney believes America is facing an array of threats and opportunities from such nations as China and Russia, which are under authoritarian rule, and which he believes may undermine international security. Romney has stated his strategies in detail on his website to give voters, allies and rivals access to his agendas. He seeks to restore the three foundations of America: strong values, a strong economy, and a strong military. Strong values, he said, are the core of the country's economic and political freedom; a strong economy is vital in building a strong military, which is vital to the preservation of US security across the world. Romney supposedly won in the Iowa primary but it was later discovered that he was in fact a few votes behind Rick Santorum. He won the New Hampshire primary with 39.3 percent of the votes. In South Carolina, he began to face unsavory revelations about his business background. As CEO of Bain Capital, he claimed to have created jobs for 100,000 people but he has been accused by rivals of engaging in “vulture capitalism”. __
