Harithy Okaz/Saudi Gazette MAKKAH/RIYADH – Crown Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz has praised the Ministry of Water and Electricity's efforts to complete protective dams and set up flood alarms in danger zones and major valleys. Prince Naif made the remarks in a telegram to the Minister of Water and Electricity Abdullah Bin Abdul Rahman Al-Hussayen. He expressed his hopes that “the measures taken by the Ministry of Water and Electricity will cover dangerous locations around the Kingdom”. The Ministry of Water and Electricity has undertaken enormous efforts to prevent a recurrence of flood disasters such as those seen in Jeddah. “The ministry has set up 394 dams throughout the Kingdom with a total storage capacity of two billion cubic meters. Of these dams, 72 have been built near valleys, with a further 11, which are currently under construction, near valleys as well,” a ministry spokesman said. The flood alarm systems are linked with the emergency units of Civil Defense in the regions. __
