The Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), organizers of the third annual Abu Dhabi International Triathlon 2012, is launching the “Local Heroes” competition on March 3 to encourage people from across the GCC to kickstart a healthy New Year. The competition held in select media titles is offering triathlon enthusiasts from each GCC country return flights to Abu Dhabi on Etihad Airways, two-nights' accommodation at the beachfront Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan, an exclusive 7 week training pack containing nutritional advice, dietary plans and physio tips from Abu Dhabi Triathlon Team experts, and free entry into the event. The initiative will offer ten triathlon enthusiasts from across UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to represent their country and become a “Local Hero” by completing the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon 2012. The winners will have the option of competing in either the 223km main long course, the half-length short course, or the successful 2011 debuted sprint course. The event attracts both strong local and international participants, and is targeting a record field of 2,100 participants in 2012, up from 1,500 last year.
