Saudi Gazette Art has taken many forms over the course of our history, and today's art doesn't merely follow tradition but savors it. Athr gallery, known to support and nurture local talent, is currently featuring a group of talented Saudi artists in a collective exhibition that spreads over the two floor art-space. So sip on local flavors, revel in dialogue while you discover stories and get inspired. Space One is dedicated to project launches by Saudi artists Nasser Al Salem, Saddek Wassil and Moath Alofi. With ‘Doors of Balik' scattered through the space along with photographs of doors from Madinah, Moath Alofi examines the visible spatial components of a social and urban transformation in progress. Alofi notes that doors document the physical aftermath of displacement with demolishing symbols that mark the first phase of looming destruction. Through street photography Alofi explores the reoccurring residential rehabilitation Madinah has experienced. Nasser Al Salem indulges in a spiritual ‘state of affairs' using video and script installations. He studies the path through which sincere intention "fosters spiritual affirmations that all will be well" and a content relationship with God and all He has planned for us. Saddek Wasil uses ambiguity as a fierce element in his new works at Athr. He seems to find meaning in everything yet plays with the notion nothing lasts and is "just another brick in the wall". Upstairs, Daniah Al Saleh's solo exhibition titled ‘Delirium' is pitched opposite Abdulaziz AlRashedi who showcases his powerful calligraphy works in ‘Power of Faith'. AlSaleh's works on the other hand are centered on the use of geometry and take a closer look at how morphed objects can comprehend the state of our reality. This month Athr opened its doors to designers such as Yataghan, Haneen Sabir, Leila Mehelmy and Project 141 along with other homegrown brands like 9SickSick, BisBis Now, Crooked Guru, and Diggn'It in a pop-up shop. The exhibition runs till September 8. Instagram: @AthrArt
