Okaz/Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — Emir of Makkah Prince Khalid Al-Faisal has ordered the removal of all encroachments on public roads in Jeddah. Sultan Al-Dowsary, spokesman fro the emirate of Makkah, said a committee was formed to mark the encroached land in Jeddah and close it down either partially or fully. "The committee closed 154 streets, but 142 of them were reopened later. Eleven of the streets still remain closed. The committee includes Jeddah Governorate, the Jeddah Municipality, Jeddah Police, Jeddah Department of Transport," said Al-Dowsary. He said the municipality closed 91 streets because they were encroached by citizens and 63 streets were shut for traffic reasons. "After recommendations from Jeddah Traffic Department, 51 streets were reopened. The municipality submitted an official report to the Emir of Makkah in this regard," said Al-Dowsary. He added the committee demolished various encroachments in Al-Jawad District. "The committee demolished a worker's residence built on encroached land. It also opened four main streets, in addition to Abdulrahman Al-Tibaishi Street in Al-Andalus District, which was encroached by a businessman who closed it down to build his own property," said Al-Dowsary. He said the roads are now open and the traffic is organized. "A secondary street in Al-Jamiah District was closed by a businessman and was reported by a citizen who posted pictures of the street. A committee was formed after a businessman posted a video of the encroachment on social media platforms," said Al-Dowsary.
