Published in The Saudi Gazette on 19 - 06 - 2016

THE Board of Directors of Nawah will govern the performance of Nawah Energy Company, ensuring that the company's senior leadership team is accountable for the safe, quality-driven and reliable operations of the power plants.
"The launch of ENEC's nuclear operating subsidiary is a significant milestone for the UAE peaceful nuclear energy program," said Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ENEC. "As a world-class nuclear company, Nawah will safely operate the Units 1 to 4 in Barakah; this enables a higher level of focus in our work and an increased momentum towards the safe and quality-driven construction, commissioning and operations of the four Units in Barakah," he added.
"ENEC will focus on the strategic growth of the nuclear industry across the UAE, its responsibilities as project owner of Barakah and shareholder of Nawah, as well as the safe and quality-driven delivery and commissioning of the Barakah project," said Eng. Mohamed Al Hammadi, ENEC CEO.
The Board of Directors appointed Eng. Mohammed Sahoo AlSuwaidi as the Acting CEO. Al Suwaidi brings a solid 32 years of experience drawn from a diverse career in the Oil and Gas, serving in Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Group of Companies in Operations, Project Management and has served as a Board Member of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) since its inception.
Under the direction of the Board of Directors of Nawah, HEng. Mohammed Sahoo AlSuwaidi will be responsible for driving the company's executive strategy and the development of UAE Nationals, ensuring that the management, operations, and maintenance of Barakah Units 1 to 4 are conducted in adherence to the highest standards of safety, security, quality, and to the UAE's commitment of operational transparency.
Nawah will be responsible to continue the process to obtain the approval of the Operating Licenses from the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) to operate Units 1 to 4 in Barakah. In March 2015, ENEC filed the Operating License Application (OLA) for Units 1 & 2 on behalf of its operating subsidiary.
Eng. Mohammed Sahoo AlSuwaidi, Acting CEO of Nawah, said: "Nawah is a fast-growing nuclear operating company that is committed to delivering on its regulatory obligations and contribute to the growth of the UAE by generating electricity from safety-driven operations of nuclear energy plants in Barakah."
"Our vision for Nawah is to become a globally recognized leading nuclear energy utility. We will be constantly reflecting on high performance of our Emirati leaders, multinational and multicultural teams. Safety is the overriding priority and is embedded within the right values and behaviors of the organization to ensure the operation and management decisions of our plants are guided by a healthy and robust safety culture" AlSuwaidi added.
Nawah will build on the foundations already laid by ENEC towards operational readiness, drawing on international best-practice to develop and implement all aspects of management and operations to ensure that the nuclear energy plants in Barakah benefit from world-class standards in terms of safety, security, quality, reliability and transparency from the outset.
Prior to being appointed as Acting CEO of Nawah, Eng. Mohammed Sahoo AlSuwaidi held executive level positions in ADNOC. He served as Chief Executive Officer of GASCO from May 2002 until October 2012. He holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles, USA, in 1984.
