HAFR AL-BATIN — People in Hafr Al-Batin have accused construction contractors of dumping waste in residential areas in the dark of night, adding to the environmental pollution. They urged the municipality to stop this growing negative phenomenon by punishing those responsible. Khaled Nasser said the dumping of construction waste in residential districts has become common in Hafr Al-Batin due to the absence of proper monitoring. He called for strict action against anyone who cause environmental pollution. Yousuf Fahd said he had noticed that in some places waste is dumped near houses. "Contractors continue this illegal activity in the absence of deterrent punishment. We expect the authorities to call the contractors and take action for the wrongdoing," he said. Fahd hoped the Municipal Council in Hafr Al-Batin would take the initiative to end this negative phenomenon with the support of residents. Mohammed Fahd said some contractors have dumped their waste in the streets and this has caused problems to motorists. "Some of them throw the waste in the nearest vacant place and this tarnish the image of residential districts in the city," he said. Saad Nasser said he had purchased a plot of land to construct a house and was surprised to see large amounts of waste dumped in the plot when he was away. "Trucks unload construction debris in residential districts without fear because no one is monitoring them," he said. Sulaiman Al-Rushaidi had a similar experience. "When we returned from a trip we saw huge amounts of waste dumped nearby our house," he told Okaz/Saudi Gazette. He called on the municipality to punish the contractors who throw waste in residential areas.
