Saudi Minister of Transport Suliman Alhamdan stressed that the Council of Ministers' decision for the total separation of General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) responsibilities as an independent legislative body and the board of directors of Saudi Arabian Airlines, is a move that would serve the air transport sector in Saudi Arabia and enhances the role of GACA to stand on the same distance between all the carriers and embolden its role as an independent legislative body. He stressed that this wise decision reflects the keenness of our wise leadership to bolster and support the aviation sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and move forward to achieve a leadership position in this sector. He further said that GACA has worked during the last period to strengthen its supervisory legislative role through adopting several laws and regulations that will achieve greater organization and flexibility in this vital sector. "This will no doubt help in reaching the aspirations of our wise leadership and to reach a level of satisfactions to the people of this country of the service rendered to them in the air transport sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia." The Council of Minsters has approved during its weekly meeting on Monday a decision to activate the role of GACA as an independent legislative body. This will result in a total separation of GACA's responsibilities and Saudi Arabian Airline Board of Directors. — SG
