Rashford, Sturridge make England squad
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 01 - 06 - 2016

Strikers Marcus Rashford and Daniel Sturridge have made Roy Hodgson's final 23-man England squad for Euro 2016 but winger Andros Townsend and midfielders Danny Drinkwater and Fabian Delph failed to make the cut.
England is taking five forwards to the 24-team tournament in France with Sturridge selected despite doubts over a calf problem which forced him to miss Friday's friendly win over Australia.
The 18-year-old Rashford, who signed a new long-term deal with Manchester United Monday, became the youngest player to score on his England debut in the game against Australia at the Stadium of Light.
Delph pulled out of the squad with an injury last week and Ross Barkley was preferred to Drinkwater.
Reus out of Germany squad
Winger Marco Reus was left out of Germany's final Euro 2016 squad on his 27th birthday Tuesday over injury concerns, missing out on his second consecutive major tournament.
Coach Joachim Loew also cut 20-year-old midfielder Julian Brandt along with his Bayer Leverkusen teammate Karim Bellarabi and defensive midfielder Sebastian Rudy.
Borussia Dortmund's Reus, who was ruled out of the 2014 World Cup after sustaining an injury in the final warmup game, would struggle to get through a one-month tournament due to long-standing fitness problems, Loew said.
The Germans, eyeing their fourth continental title and first since 1996, have been drawn in Group C along with Poland, Ukraine and Northern Ireland for the tournament in France starting on June 10.
Loew kept faith with youngsters Leroy Sane, Julian Weigl and Joshua Kimmich and included captain Bastian Schweinsteiger and defender Mats Hummels even though both are nursing injuries.
Coman shines in France win
France looked sluggish at times but could at least rely on gifted teenager Kingsley Coman in a 3-2 win over Cameroon Monday in their penultimate warm-up game for the Euro 2016 campaign on home soil.
France snatched victory with a last-gasp Dimitri Payet free kick but it was Coman who caught the eye as the 19-year-old Bayern Munich winger set up a goal and made his presence felt all over the pitch until he came off in the 77th minute.
His performance confirmed that the host can bank on young talent up front in the June 10-July 10 tournament.
France opened the scoring after 20 minutes in the western port city when midfielder Blaise Matuidi volleyed home a fine cross by Coman, starting a match for France for the first time.
Cameroon leveled two minutes later, Vincent Aboubacar catching the home defense off guard to tap in from close range.
Striker Olivier Giroud put the host ahead from a Paul Pogba cross four minutes before the break.
The second half proved relatively uneventful until Eric Choupo Moting equalized from close range two minutes from time before Payet popped up with the winner at the death.
Sweden lacks fire without Ibra
Sweden was sorely missing star striker and captain Zlatan Ibrahimovic Monday as it lacked fire in a lackluster 0-0 draw in a pre-Euro 2016 friendly against Slovenia in Malmo.
Many of the 17,000 crowd had come to see local star Ibrahimovic in action, but instead saw a pedestrian display against a team which did not qualify for Euro 2016.
