Saudi Gazette Sustainable development is the process of meeting the needs of the nation at present without compromising for the future generations. It is a pattern of growth in which natural resources are used in a way that preserves the environment for future generations. The College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT) in Dhahban, has announced to open a center and ponder upon developments in the Kingdom. The university will research and study methods that will promote growth and development in businesses, economy, environment, and sociopolitical status. The Dean of CEIT, Dr. Abdulgader Amir, told Okaz/Saudi Gazette, “The Sustainable Development Center will be the first of its kind among all private colleges and universities in the Kingdom. The center will provide a suitable arena for students, faculty, and volunteers to organize activities, events, and campaigns that will raise the public's awareness about environmental friendliness. Through influencing human behavior in our community, we can shape our future to be greener, cleaner, and more eco-friendly. Much research will go into preserving the environment and finding solutions to problems such as pollution, deficiencies in waste management, and coping with limited natural resources.” He further explained,“The center aims to not only spread information and awareness but to apply the practices that sustainable development promotes. Our goal is to convey the message to every citizen and resident on how to wisely consume water, conserve electricity, water, and gas, and how to properly dispose of waste. The center will support projects that invite and foster the creativity and new ideas by brilliant minds in the Kingdom. It will also encourage investment in finding alternatives to oil for fuel, such as nuclear energy and solar energy.” __
