Saudi Gazette The Deanship of Library Affairs at the University of Dammam said that in the year 2011 it supplied 13,078 books in Arabic and 2075 books in English to libraries of 14 different universities. The Dean of Library Affairs, Dr. Raed Al-Bukhari said, “The Deanship of Library Affairs is in the process of modernizing and developing the structure, the services, and the accessibility to information in each of the several university libraries. The library should be adapted to meet the educational and research needs of the students, should be made more favorable to students, and should provide a comfortable learning and study environment. Students can find supplements to the required curriculum and electronic tutorial assistance to help them better understand the subject material for almost all courses.” A large number of up-to-date personal computers with internet access has also been set up by the main library in Dammam. It has also installed an advanced software called Symphony in their library. Symphony electronically catalogues and categorizes all books in the library, eases the search for a particular book, keeps track of all checked-in and checked-out books, and to helps students, faculty members and librarians. It has been recently upgraded and remodeled to ensure a comfortable environment for studying and reading. The library is currently home to over 70,000 books in a wide range of fields. Readers can also take advantage of the library's subscription to 371 specialized and renowned monthly magazines and scientific journals. The regular working hours at the library have been extended to up until 8pm and during exams it will stay open until 10 P.M. __
